What is Teshuvah

WHAT IS TESHUVAH?

IT IS A 4O DAY PERIOD OF RETURN!

Jonah 3:4-5
And Jonah began to enter into the city a day’s journey, and he cried, and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown.
 So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them.

The number forty is used many times in scripture to represent testing or repentance. Moses was on the mountain 40 days, the spies checked out the land 40 days, Jesus fasted 40 days. Join us to learn about the 40 day season of preparation we are to set aside each year.

Teshuva Returning to God

Teshuva Returning to God

Teshuva means return , We call it repentance.

Moses had to return to the top of Mount Sinai a second time for a forty day stay. This second ascent and the forty days Moses stayed with GOD are echoed when Christ begins his ministry with forty days in the wilderness. Teshuva is a forty day period each year that is strategically placed for all to be prepared for the Last Trump. This is a must hear lesson for students of the Word.

if someone commits a sin, a forbidden act, he can be forgiven for that sin if he performs teshuva, which includes:[1]

  • regretting/acknowledging the sin;
  • forsaking the sin;
  • worrying about the future consequences of the sin;
  • acting and speaking with humility;
  • acting in a way opposite to that of the sin (for example, for the sin of lying, one should speak the truth);
  • understanding the magnitude of the sin;
  • refraining from lesser sins for the purpose of safeguarding oneself against committing greater sins;
  • confessing the sin;
  • praying for atonement;
  • correcting the sin however possible;
  • pursuing works of loving kindness and truth;
  • remembering the sin for the rest of one’s life;
  • refraining from committing the same sin if the opportunity presents itself again;
  • teaching others not to sin.

Going on to Perfection: Lesson One

Going on to Perfection: Lesson One

Repentance is the first step in serving GOD. There can be no alliance with the creator until this action by man is implemented. Amazingly enough, repentance is the foundation that must be permanently laid. For continued growth in GOD and his Christ, repentance cannot be a past location we visited. It needs to become an altar of sacrifice each person has built. An altar has many purposes, and in Christianity we usually kneel as a gesture of surrender, submission and sacrifice. This correct posture can cause us to overlook the purpose of our high place (Altar), not realizing it is bringing us higher and closer to GOD. The word repent is used 116 times in scripture. Interesting the first one to use the term is GOD HIMSELF. Genesis 6:6  And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. Join us in this lesson as we find what GOD meant by this as well as learning the four R’s of true repentance.

1. Recognize our Failures,

2. Regret our improper actions,

3.Repent of our lack of obedience,

4. Refrain from repeating the inappropriate action.
