The Five Foundations: Priesthood Lesson Four

The home and family of a Priest speak of the character of one’s priesthood. This lecture covers the daily routine of a priest in GOD’S temple as we look for a pattern to follow in our duties for GOD.

Genesis 18:18-19 : Seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him?  For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.

Exodus 19:6 : And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.

The Five Foundations: Priesthood Lesson Three

GODS plane for his priest’s on earth was for them to be a conduit of his power, his presence, and his blessings.

Each morning in the temple at the conclusion of the morning service the officiating priest was commanded to bless the people with these words:

Numbers 6:22-26 : And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, Speak unto Aaron and unto his sons, saying, On this wise ye shall bless the children of Israel, saying unto them, The LORD bless thee, and keep thee: The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.

In the New Testament Jesus said it like this:

Matthew 10:13 : And if the house be worthy, let your peace come upon it: but if it be not worthy, let your peace return to you.

In this third lesson on Priesthood we investigate what holiness is. As priests we are called to holiness therefore we should define what this means. Are spirituality and holiness the same thing? These topics and others are covered in this 45 minute teaching.

The Five Foundations: Priesthood Lesson Two

Israel was delivered from Egypt and given many conditional promises for their future. GOD desired to make Israel a kingdom of priests. The High Priest would have a special garment whereby he could be identified. The Levite priesthood also had a uniform that would identify them as priests. Then the whole nation was given a garment to wear that would identify them as set apart as priests of GOD. This garment was the fringes or zit zit in the corners of the clothing they wore. (See Numbers 15:38 and Duet. 22:12)

GOD wanting each of them to recognize they were set apart for his purpose.

Exodus 19:4-6 : Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles’ wings, and brought you unto myself. Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine: And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.

We see in the New Testament GOD has called believers to be a kingdom of priests.

1 Peter 2:9: But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light:

In this lesson we will discover the garment GOD has given us to minister in. Please listen to lesson one on Priesthood first.

The Five Foundations: Priesthood Lesson One

PRIESTHOOD and PRIESTS

After bringing the Hebrews out of the bondage of Egypt GOD gives Moses five fundamental doctrines to be taught to the children of Israel. These doctrines are the five foundations that will bring greater clarity to all scripture. The five foundations in the order GOD gave them to Moses are: The Law, The Tabernacle (later the temple) and its services, The Priesthood, The Five Sacrifices, and the Feasts of the LORD. Join us in our first lesson concerning the priesthood and the priests.

It is a foundational concept of Protestantism. While Martin Luther did not use the exact phrase “priesthood of all believers”, he adduces a general priesthood in Christendom in his 1520 To the Christian Nobility of the German Nation in order to dismiss the medieval view that Christians in the present life were to be divided into two classes: “spiritual” and “secular“. He put forward the doctrine that all baptized Christians are “priests” and “spiritual” in the sight of God:

The Bible passage considered to be the basis of this belief is the First Epistle of Peter, 2:9:

But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.
